Safe Exit is a lightweight tool that promises to ensure you don't lose any work by accidentally shutting down the machine without saving your progress. Safe Exit is not taking over the shutdown mechanic the OS has in place, it simply gives the user more control over processes, applications, or documents that may slip around the default shutdown barrier.

Windows 10 had a similar feature, which has since been removed, called “Session Manager.” You had to press Ctrl-Alt-Del in order to open it. Not sure what prompted Microsoft to remove it, but I’d imagine it was because it was taking away from a user’s control.

Safe Exit Features:

Watch all running processes on your computer and immediately stop them (stop programs) or start them again (restart programs)
Safely shutdown any running program
Safely shutdown your computer (if requested).
Safely restart your computer (if requested)
Open, close and move any application or document to the process list, including web browsers.
Control the behavior of all scheduled tasks you may have setup, including those added by third party applications.
Monitor any windows you may have previously closed.

Install and Removal Instructions

You can use the.exe file contained in the zip file to install the application on your Windows machine. It does require an administrator to install it, so the first time the application will require to run, one has to click on “Yes” to an UAC security prompt.
After that initial execution, Safe Exit will run as the same user it was originally installed as. In case you already had the app, it should remember your last profile. Simply logging off will reset the user profile back to the default.
Unzipping the contents of the.zip file gives you three files:

Setup.exe – The main application installer.
Uninstall.exe – A utility to remove the application from the machine.
SAFE-Exit-Installer.exe – The installer used to build the installation package.

The installation procedure is quite straight forward. The first time the program executes, an empty default user account will be opened and a welcome dialog shown. Simply approve an installation request and all will be done. If you don’t have administrator rights, one will have to click on “Yes” to prompt UAC security to execute the installation.
The Setup.exe file contains several modules, including:

Command Line

This last module is worth mentioning. The command line allows the user to shutdown or restart any application without accessing the Task Manager. The command syntax is as follows:
