I’ve never been a huge fan of coffee, yet a hankering for a cup of the bitter brew, sometimes leads me to find exotic places to get it. I’ve been so lucky and traveled to places where I’ve found some of the best coffee spots in the world. However, this time it’s not a coffee expo or a coffee festival I’m talking about. It’s a piece of art gallery and a true hidden gem that brings such beauty to the streets of Vienna. And I do mean streets. It’s in the old town, one of the most vibrant places in Europe.
And I am pretty sure if you happen to take a wrong turn or visit the gallery during the wrong time, you will probably miss seeing it at all. A pity, as it is located at the main street and near the Semperoper.
But luckily, there’s an even better place. I’m talking about the Peace Gallery, which is next to the city center at the banks of the Danube. In the Art Nouveau apartment building, at Rakott St.. 42. In the building you’ll also find an art gallery, restaurant, and a cozy little jazz bar. What’s more, they have a great coffee house.

For a small gallery/coffee shop, it’s got really good stuff. The morning break is welcomed with an old fashioned meringue, followed by a fresh java. A lot of things to try, from French macarons, organic fair trade coffee, to pastries baked by a local family. On top of that, it is more than just a coffee shop, as you’ll find most of the exhibitions here as well.
In the gallery, you can find everything from modern art to oil paintings, sculptures and ceramic works. And most importantly, you’ll be able to get caffeine on your way there.
